Fight Like Mary
A Mother's Strength in Her Daughter's Eyes
By Alexandria Huddleston
Some thieves can't be seen.
What they take is felt.
But they don't always get to decide what gets left behind. When Alexandria's parents separated, she spent much of her childhood longing for more time with her mother, Mary. Then, when Mary was just twenty-five years old, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. As the years passed, music, shared dreams, laughter, and adventures brought them closer together, even as the disease slowly changed Mary's life.As Mary's world grew smaller, her determination never did.Through hospitals stays, caregiving, family struggles, heartbreak, forgiveness, and unimaginable loss, Alexandria witnessed a strength she didn't fully understand until after Mary was gone. Only then did she realize that Mary's greatest battle was never against the illness alone. It was a relentless fight for joy, hope, faith, and the people she loved most.More than a memoir about chronic illness or loss, Fight Like Mary is a daughter's love letter to the woman behind the diagnosis and a promise that Mary will be remembered for far more than the disease she carried.By the final pages, you won't simply remember Mary. You'll understand why those who loved her never wanted her name to stop being spoken.

Mary lived with multiple sclerosis for more than two decades. The illness changed so much about her life, but she never let it take everything away from her. Instead, she fought for joy.I want readers of Fight Like Mary to get the chance to know her and maybe even be inspired by the way she fought.
Meet the Author

I'm Alexandria Huddleston, the author of Fight Like Mary: A Mother's Strength in Her Daughter's Eyes.I began writing Fight Like Mary as a way to cope with the loss of my mom, Mary. Writing gave my grief somewhere to go and became a way to revisit the moments I shared with her. What began as a deeply personal way of processing loss became a way to allow my mom to continue to exist in the world and to introduce others to the incredible woman she was.Through Fight Like Mary, I hope to honor my mom not only for the battles she faced, but for the life, love, faith, humor, and strength that made her Mary. I also hope that Mary's story can be there for readers in some way, whether that's in feeling seen in their own grief, finding strength during their own battles, or simply being reminded to cherish the people and moments that matter most.
